"Needing only simple tools and a bit of time". You forgot to mention the infinite patience that is absolutely vital to all of this.

Much is said about your incredible patience with these ancient - and slow - techniques, but on this episode I was struck by just how excellent your videography is. It is artful; your shooting style and editing make pleasant and beautiful videos.
Most impressive of all to me is how transparent your videos feel. The b-roll and CAD images somehow barely distract from the actual, literal shots of filing away in the workshop. It's like, rather than looking over your shoulder as you work, we instead get the ultimate privilege of seeing through your eyes and even understanding your thoughts.
You communicate why you do the work just as well as how you do the work. It's incredible. I was hooked early on in the clock project, and I think Clickspring remains among the highest quality things I have ever seen on Youtube.

Using a dobstick as a file guide is a brilliant trick. It's amazing that filing precise gear teeth by hand is possible at all, let alone with such a simple technique.

The big advantage of Chris presenting his work here on YouTube, he can show that it was possible to create such intricate mechanisms with then known techniques
It's not necessary to write a long essay to set his claims, he can show it directly.

I regret that I have but one upvote to give. This series of videos is one of the most fascinating on YouTube. Watching your work, and hearing the tappings and grindings, it's like being transported back 2000 years into the very workshop where the Antikythera Mechanism was made. A brilliant recreation.

After watching your videos, I am always beyond humbled by the ingenuity of our ancestors. As a precision machinist and tool maker by trade I spend countless hours thinking of practical solutions to manufacture complex mechanisms. It was no different in antiquity, those men were as intelligent and capable as we are today. I'm proud to be part of a trade that has fascinated mankind for millennia.

Your dissertation of the methods they likely used are spot on in my opinion. Simplicity, practicality, form, fit, and function were always the main drivers of mechanical design.

Thank you for all the hard work you do and for taking the time to share your discoveries with the rest of the world!

After following this series for years, seeing the movement of the gears around 31:30 leaves me in awe

I like your take on the gear train. I would not like to think that the device had been bodged and such an essential function for the seafarer disabled. The explanation for the resin choice also makes excellent sense. After seeing the original on my last trip to Athens, I am continually amazed at how scientists and engineers like you have thoughtfully and methodically recreated this wonder.

Hey Chris, love to see the work you've done over the years. Even after I left engineering at university to persue a different career, its always a pleasure to come back and watch the catalogue of videos you've put on this site

Your hand-eye coordination is amazingly accurate and precise. I have to keep reminding myself that you're creating this mechanism right before my eyes, with your bare hands holding imprecise tools, guided by your brain, with no external jigs.
