  I was in 11th grade. The video blew everyone away. This was our generations anti-war song. It made us think and empathise. It moved so many of us to hate war.

  One day I woke up in a hospital bed not remembering the last five months of my life. &nbsp;I soon found out that I had multiple skull fractures, and was now blind in my left eye. I had a bad fall or accident &nbsp; but I dont have any memory of it. &nbsp;Long story short, I was no longer afraid to finally sing my first karaoke song. &nbsp;I sang Metallica &nbsp;~ One. &nbsp;Semper Fi.

  The story &quot;Johnny Get Your Gun&quot; is not based on a true story. &nbsp;It was inspired by articles written about two men with severe injuries from WWI.

  There is one key lyric to the entire meaning of this song &quot;Now the world is GONE, I am just ONE&quot; &nbsp;The song details the terrifying situation of being fully conscious but unable to interact with the world in any way basically your body a prison cell.

  There was a movie that they must have based this on. I think it was in the 60&apos;s. The character pounds out morse code with his head. The only way he could communicate. Johnny Got His Gun.

  This is one of the most iconic songs from Metallica, one of their classics from 1988. Written by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, the song portrays a World War I soldier who is severely wounded — arms, legs and jaw blown off by a landmine, blind, deaf, and unable to speak or move - begging God to take his life. It&apos;s very harrowing, Dalton Trumbo wrote the book &apos;Johnny Got His Gun&apos; which is a work of fiction, but inspired by a true story. He read in a newspaper article in the early 1930s about a severely injured World War I soldier. &nbsp;This song and the video are so powerful and yes, it certainly does make you think about the horrors of war and the consequences.
