Corey has always been vague by saying it's about "a woman" who helped him in dark times of his life and he thought she felt the same as him but she didn't. Many think it's about his ex wife Scarlett.
The song got incredibly more meaningful with Corey's best friend and Slipknot bassist Paul Gray helping him with it. Paul pushed Corey to complete and release this song as Corey wasn't originally going to. At that time, Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison heard it, had them make a basic track, and later went and made the drum track for it without Corey knowing. When Joey played it for him, Corey broke down.
This song was the last single to be released before Paul died. This song has been forever dedicated to Paul, and is the reason you see Corey look up to to the sky, and the crowd sings it like that. Corey would break down at shows and the crowd would carry it on.

Sadly both Paul and now Joey are gone.
RIP BROTHERS 🤘 Maggot Corps forever 🤘

This concert you’re seeing I believe is from when he was doing his book tours where he’d come and do a Q&A then sing some of his best songs

Everyone sees Corey, and their first thought is "Oh! That's the guy from Slipknot", so his songs are going to be very growly and Metal. But I can tell you from first-hand experience that the man can SING. Like, sing sing. There are quite a few covers he has done, and they sound amazing! If you want something new and different look up a song called "From can to can't". It was a song he did with Dave Grohl.

Snuff hit him on a very emotional level because this is the first song he wrote on his own for Slipknot. "Corey doesn't really write music for Slipknot – but, when he came over to hear the songs Paul [Gray, bassist] and I were working on for All Hope Is Gone, he showed me this… I had him lay a scratch track down in the studio. Then I went in late at night, without telling him, and laid down some drums… When he heard it the next day, he started crying. It's Corey's masterpiece." – Joey Jordison[

I think most Maggots would never hesitate to help Corey out with this song. You can see how hurt he is & his music has gotten many of us through dark times so I’m sure most of us would do what we can even if it’s just singing along.

"it took the death of hope to let you go"

I think anyone who has been on the receiving end of a breakup feels that line deep in the pit of their stomach

He killed this song and the Stone Sour song Bother. I know it has to be hard for artists to sing a song so personal if front of people they don't know but when it's a song that's so personal and deep to them it just makes the song so much better.
