Cinderella's Castle was deliberately built at that height to avoid FAA regulations mandating aircraft warning lights on structures exceeding 200 feet, which would have ruined the magic.

I think my favorite is the center watching the areas to shift traffic to keep the calm pace. Or whatever they call it.

As a former 11 year cast member. I can tell you this is just basic info you learn in Traditions Classes. The part about trash collection is about 90% incorrect.

The utilidors are there for more than cast members to stay "within theme" so we don't see B'rer Rabbit hopping through Tomorrowland. (He'd fit in in New Orleans Square or Frontierland, though). Disney World was built largely on marshes and swamps, with some palmetto groves, it's just how Central Florida is. Part of the lake for Frontierland et al WAS part of a lake; it was a major engineering feat to dam up the part that Disney didn't want, drain it, and fill it. The utilidors have a very comprehensive drainage and dehumidifying system, I believe it was designed by Grumman in partnership with Carrier.

An even more fascinating story is how DIsney set up a number of land companies, most working without knowing each other, to acquire the needed properties, as naturally, although Roy and Walt had no problem with offering fair market value for what they acquired, they were concerned about "holdouts" once word got out of the plans for the large facility. It took keeping a lot of regulator folks and politicians to agree, once they'd figured out what was going on, to keep quiet, as Disney was developing an area that largely hadn't even been good for citrus production, and it was marginal at best for cattle; as many folks don't realize how big the Florida beef industry really is. One of the land-owning companies that worked with Disney and profited handsomely was the real estate investment arm of the LDS Church; they'd also done so and had a good relationship with Disney from when he'd built Disneyland the previous decade.

I’ve traveled from the UK to WDW about 30 times since 1988 and whilst I understand it’s changed quite a bit , that “Disney feeling” still exists created by the smells , the sounds, the cast members etc …but that enhanced by the looks on 1,000’s of children as they wander in joy and amazement … Walt would be proud of that. Hopefully , once the political turmoil subsides we shall return again .

Ok so as a former wdw cast member. If you throw your trash in the trashcan, it does not go through a vacuum system until the custodial team takes the trash from the trashcan and brings it backstage to the hvac.

Wow I guess its worth to pay $179 per daily ticket to pay for all that technology.

RCID was torn down by Captain Ron. The only politician to ever take on Disney and beat them. That said, DW is impressive.

Walt had the Florida dream when he built Cali. He didn't immediately acquire the surrounding land and his opportunity for mass revenue was quickly gone. When he shopped for his dream, hefound a spot in Florida where it would take massive backfill to make the land usable and that no one could or would buy up the adjacent land. Disney could grow in both design and revenue. The closest competitors could get at a reasonable financial investment was Kissimmee... a 10 minute drive at best. Major improvement on Walt's original dream.

#21: In all of the Disney parks (except one) you are able to enter/leave restrooms without using your hands; no doors. However, in Animal Kingdom, all of the restrooms have doors with locks. Why? In case of a dangerous animal escape, cast members move all guests to the restrooms.

The two things that blow my mind about Disney, be it WDW or Disneyland are, first, the runaway surfeit of imagination employed to build it and make it work. Sure, it's backed by a king's ransom, but without it it would be merely another theme park. Second, the maniacal attention to detail which makes the "magic" truly magical. No other park comes even close.
