  I flew Aer Lingus from Dublin to Paris in the fall of 1993. The plane was nearly empty, so the flight attendants moved us into first class and gave us first class food for the short flight, all at no charge. It was the best flying experience I’d ever had.

  You missed a big one - Aer Lingus started the Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus. It was part of an effort where they seeded a bunch of European charter carriers. Another one, for instance, was the Spanish charter carrier Futura (now long gone).<br><br>Aer Lingus helped launch Pegasus in the late 1980s. It still had Irish management in the late 1990s.<br><br>Pegasus is a big deal today, dominating the Asia-side Istanbul airport (which, despite being the second Istanbul airport, is a huge airport in its own right).

  Flying on aer Lingus and Ryanair for forty years all over Europe and the world , my observation is we must be considered the fittest race on earth, because the plane is always the furthest away in every airport miles to walk no matter which country we land in
