  High bushes are very common on busy roads in Vancouver due to the sound pollution that come from streets like Granville St. (Granville & 16th intersection you showed) and Burrard St. The high bushes act as a privacy screen but an even better sound dampener!

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pEMpQAXf-I&amp;t=630">10:30</a> I feel one reason is definitely privacy/sound (and when I lived there it was nice), but another reason is that hedges and other greenery just grow really easily in Vancouver. The rain allows for green spaces. I honestly wish parts of Vancouver leaned even more into it.
