Interesting side note, the Hormuz straight is practically the center of attention these days. Hormuz is a place name descended from the divine name Ahura Mazda. Old Persian: Ahuramazda
→ Middle Persian: Ohrmazd / Hormizd
→ New Persian forms: Ormazd / Hormoz / Hormuz

Thank you for inviting Dr. Barnea. I just watched a synthetic AI made video of Prof Jiang in Spanish on Zoroastrianism. It’s good to have some academic centainty.

Also ... at 1:06:00, Dr. Barnea, THANK YOU for your honesty and the "gunning down" of parallel-o-mania. Like you, I am an historian, researcher, and scholar. We don't need to cinjure connections upon such thin threads. This is not history. BRING US THE EVIDENCE ... not pipe-dreams for popularity. Thank you.

And Derek, I give you huge cred for sharing this video in which you get gunned down OUT OF THE SKY in flames. That is intellectual honesty and worthy of respect, my friend. Perhaps this is one of the reasons I keep coming back to your channel despite FREQUENT feelings of impatience. I KNOW and respect that this channel is your claim to fame, but don't be afraid to RISK another great leap. Embrace the discipline. Study, advance, attain, and publish. Become a peer. I did do at age 50 and it may be the greatest single thing I've done for myself in this life ... AND, I hope, for my colleagues and fellow citizens of the world.

    Thank you for this!

Derek, has MythVision already covered a similar one regarding King Sargon and his fabrication of the story of how he was placed in a basket and floated down the river as a baby? It’s similar to the Moses story.

Here’s a quick G-summary:

“The Legend of Sargon of Akkad: Inspiration for the Story of Moses ...
The Sargon birth legend describes how Sargon of Akkad (c. 24th century BCE) was born in secret to a high priestess, placed in a reed basket sealed with bitumen, and set adrift on the Euphrates River. He was rescued by a water-drawer named Akki, who raised him as his own child.”

Greatly appreciate you finding these scholars who bring a wider scope of history surrounding the Bible.
I'd love to hear his take on the belief and claim that many today believe that the figure of yhwh, ancient Israels conception of this being as the source/creator of all things
Question: If the Masorites used Hebrew books to translate their version into what is the commonly accepted authoritative text of the Old Testament, where did these manuscripts come from?
I understand that there are no original manuscripts that remain since the translation into Greek in Alexandria.
And what I have read in scholarly sources and listened to many sincere academics is that they, the supposedly Hebrew manuscripts, were found in Monastaries and Libraries in the middle time period of the 1st millenia.
Now if you give me 500-900 years, I could learn proper 5th century BC Hebrew language and script then create a narrative that closely resembles the Septuagint, that could convince most non academic scholars that the Old Testament came from another star system (hyperbole).
Am I being too cynical to the veracity of the remaining 2nd temple ideologues who still held on the a 2nd temple system of worshipping God and could not accept the fact that they were a people that God used. That they are the people who trangressed the covenant He had made with them. The covenant was clear and the law of Moses magnified the truth. They brought upon themselves the judgement and wrath of God bringing the completion of that age of God's interaction with a group of people known that were known as the 2nd temple ancient Israelites?
Udo

Good interview Derek. Best guest ever ❤

What Derek seems not to realise, is that the Zoroastrian religion continued into the Greek period after Alexander the Great. It remained the majority religion within the Seleucid Empire (from the Mediterranean seaboard to the Indus Valley). But it got Hellenized.

I love Gad . I respect his field I’ve looked into this because I was looking for Moses and him being a Persian priest is possible but we don’t have the transmissions and it’s that simple

What about the Greek Olympic Games fire? Was it considered a divine fire? Plus I heard many Romans had divine fires in temples.

Dr. Barnea, thank you. At 76 years, I am a lifelong critical student of the Bible and you have just shared yet another new insight. I'm going to re-read all the "sacred" fire passages of the Biblical texts with new eyes.
