Imagine joining a cult and then being told, "Hey you're good with websites, right? Cool. Could you stay back and keep our website up?"

Extra note on Heaven's Gate: by the time they had decided to hitch a ride with Hale-Bopp, Tee had already died of cancer and Doe had to be convinced by his followers to continue with things. Also, their website is still up and maintained by other members of the cult (not all committed suicide, obviously).

I emailed heavens gate the other day asking to join as a joke.. they replied with something cryptic as hell😭😭 “No. The Group came to an end in 1997. There is nothing to join and there are no members.” Like damn ok acting like I’m a fed or something ..

4:36 One thing that people always forget about heaven's gate is that they left people behind. Not because they're not good enough. It's just they had to have someone make sure their website is still up today.

I absolutely love that you can say "murder" a million times, but can't say "suicide" even once.

Joaquin and his siblings (rest in peace, River) never mention their dad since they escaped the cult, I can't begin to imagine what they went through

13:40 My wife went to high school with two of the girls. She said they pretty much got whatever car they wanted (within some reason) but they were super super quiet. She rode the bus with one of the girls. She didn’t really talk much. But this compound is maybe only a mile or 2 from where my wife grew up. It’s crazy.

I remember seeing the local news when the mom was killed in the car accident with the garbage truck. I was at my grandparents and I had just finished mowing their lawn.
