I love the idea that Sonic and Tails don't know about the 7th emerald yet, assuming the mural will still be in the game, that's going to be awesome

Much of what was done here for Azure Lake is incredibly close to the source material that it originates from: MD '92 (Sonic the Hedgehog 02 (MD))'s original Time Travel Plot was supposed to give us Blue Lake/Blue Ocean, the third zone in the Past which would take place after Tropical Sun and Hill Top, it had both an Overground region that was likely in a Rocky Forest with a Lake in the background and an Underwater Ruins region that would get deeper in palette while also having Air Pockets (akin to Prototype Labyrinth); Blue Lake is what would later get repurposed to become Azure Lake and Hydrocity, it is heavily believed that Azure Lake did not have enough unique gameplay mechanics to become integrated as a proper Single Player zone in the time that the devs had to get out Sonic 03: Part 0I for the McDonald's partnership and thus akin to the other concepts that got pushed to Competition Mode it got moved in this direction, it's important that this context is kept in memory because of how much the latter half of MD '92 that didn't get into the original project due to time constraints had to be moved over to Sonic 03 and thus it is welcoming to see how faithful Other Circumstance is to this side of the project while still pretty much doing its own thing in the long run.
With all of this said, I feel that it only makes sense to remind the team that the following zones from MD '92 were repurposed in some capacity to become the zones that we see in Sonic 03:

~ Balloon Park: Craig Stitt's Unused Carnival Concept, presumably set to take place after Casino Night and Chemical Plant in the Future, right before we go to Genocide City (what would later become Launch Base and Act 0I of Death Egg '94). One of the core elements of Balloon Park's original blueprint was Sonic doing a Rolling Dash (Directional Pad Down while Running; not to be confused with the Spindash (D~Pad Down when Idle plus Jump)) on the Trunk of an Elephant, neither BP nor Carnival Night ever got to implement this and thus the Elephant Texture was confined to that sole Sliding Brick Slot in the walls of the Competition Mode zone; seeing Sonic running on an actual Giant Elephant would be genuinely welcoming to see, it would be viewed as akin to the Giant Eagle that is walked and fought on in Round 04 of Golden Axe and really bring it home that there is more to South Island's original vision than meets the eye as Floating Island, there will probably be noticeably less water in this version of the zone (especially considering that Balloon Park in MD '92 was meant to take place where Blue Lake, Secret Jungle, and Oil Ocean were in the Past, Regular Present, and Ruined Present, so all of the water in this part of the island is gone by this point due to Robotnik's work) and thus that High Elevation will be felt anytime that a bounce off a Balloon or Bobobbin (Bumper) is done.
~ Chrome Gadget: Genocide City and Death Egg '92, specifically the Hazards (GC) and the Factory Towers (DE '92's original Concept Art). Although presented as more of a Metropolis Alternative with a Downhill Trajectory (based on the background's movement), effectively the inverse of Round 03 of both Streets of Rage 03 and Bare Knuckle III (the Construction Site where Axel and company fights Break), Chrome Gadget feels more akin to what the exterior of Death Egg '92 was meant to be from the outside as Sonic is boarding the Neo Death Egg in Genocide City III, Sonic falls out of the Neo Death Egg after warping back to the Past for the final time and this is how he would've ended up in Fire Mountain (the original Lava Reef) before going to Emerald Isle (Aquatic Ruin) and Olympus (Cutscene; later One Third of Hidden Palace '94); for OC's version of Chrome Gadget, it would absolutely be ideal to take influence from Genocide City and Death Egg '92's original concepts, there's a lot of good information from Tom Payne and Yasushi Yamaguchi (Judy Totoya) about how both zones were meant to play and considering what has been done elsewhere thanks to Sonic 02: Time Adventure, Nik Pi's GC Porting Project, Esrael's Sonic Delta: 040 Megabit, Sonic the Hedgehog 02: Archives, and even officially with Press Factory II in Sonic the Hedgehog Superstars, it will be easy to adapt to what could've been north of 034 Years ago.
~ Desert Palace: Sand Shower. Desert Palace mostly uses concepts that didn't make it into Sandopolis, this was while Sand Shower was being reworked from a Utah Desert into an Egyptian one; there is not really that much to elaborate on for this zone, the best way to put it is to imagine a "What if?" scenario with Sand Shower being more akin to the exterior (Act 0I) and interior (Act II) of an Egyptian Palace instead of going into a literal Haunted Pyramid (Sandopolis infused elements of both Madness Mountain and Sand Shower; Madness Mountain's elements, such as the Turquoise Brick Walls and Haunted House functionality, were clearly not incorporated for Desert Palace though, only for Sando) and from there it should be a more linear experience with figuring out what to add to the Single Player version.
~ Endless Mine: Madness Mountain and Mystic Cave. Due to the information that we have on Madness Mountain, a Medieval Castle positioned in the Ruined Present in the same area on the map where Green Hill '92 (Emerald Hill) used to be before it would be torn down to become Chemical Plant (with the Retail version of MM being reworked to become Dust Hill (Mystic Cave); you can still see what was meant for the Castle and Haunted House concept though), it is very believable at this point that Endless Mine is a concept that was thought of during the reworking into Mystic Cave and then became its own thing; I personally view it as more of a hybrid of an Underground Dungeon for Madness Mountain that would later connect to other parts of the island, Sonic would've still gone to Oil Ocean after this though and thus the Golden Nugget Blockades and Murky Teal Water Drops have to lead our heroes somewhere; Sonic the Hedgehog 03: Chronicles, as well as Mystic Cave Remake's Minecart sections in Sonic 03: AIR and Lava Mine II in Xebninmaj's side of the Master Edition series (in this case, Xebninmaj's Master Edition 03, based on Sonic 03: Part 0I) already deliver a glimpse of what a Single Player version of Endless Mine could play like, but each one has their respective problems, wishfully OC can finally make that bridge into how Madness Mountain became Mystic Cave and this is the perfect opportunity to amalgamate everything we have witnessed up to now and turn it into something beautiful.

Just played the demo, Azure lake looks phenomenal, like some piece of unreleased Sonic media from the past. Thank you and great job
