We should all make our own "pipboy" wrist computers with LoRa to interface with these things and communicate whilst out scavenging 😅

Needs "Don't Panic" on the cover, though 🤣

Love seeing Project NOMAD come to life. This is exactly the kind of off-grid, local-first use case we get excited about.🤩

Thanks to Chris and Brian for featuring our Beryl 7 in such a meaningful setup!🙌🙌🙌

Once this gets linked into LORA systems it becomes truly interesting.

If they can get this working on ARM, that would be amazing... The Orange Pi5 has a NPU that makes using small LLM's way faster than the CPU. And it consumes waaaay less power! He was talking something at around 50-100W doing LLM inference, with the NPU it would take 8W and it would be faster!

Great work!!!

Honestly, having a less powerful LLM is a good call. Have it just powerful enough that it can find the information you're looking for, not so powerful that you force the guys on bikes powering the thing into early graves just so you can have it do all your thinking for you. Useful tool is useful.

Too many people focus on the "disaster scenario"... The real value of this project is ownership over history and information.

With the advance of ai slop and deepfakes, etc. now is the best time to back up and save data as it is before it is drastically tampered with or misrepresented.

Ideally physical media would be great to save but that presents far too many challenges for an individual. This is a great middle ground for preserving data before it potentially becomes tainted by ai or malicious parties. ❤

I heard about this a few months ago and added it to my home server. I've been running it ever since, and the whole set it and forget it mentality is spot on. I've had a handful of internet outages recently, and while it's not a replacement for YouTube, it was nice to be able to watch some educational videos about things I didn't know. And as someone who lives in a hurricane zone (South Florida) Having the ability to look up this kind of information is invaluable.
