Love that people forget the rail system and highway system was wanted from the start for easy military movements

Because the latest iteration of the M1A2 weighs around 70 tons which is more than semi trucks are generally allowed to transport. Plus trains are way more efficient transporting large loads

They are not secretly moved. If they were, they would be under a cover of some sort. I've seen new and old tanks of all types moved by rail all the time

Could anyone grasp what 50+ tanks running down an asphalt road going through a city would be like? They would destroy the streets, hold up traffic and scare those who were bystanders.

The rails in America are listed as a National Defense Asset.

Because the heavy military vehicles would be completely worn out by the time they got to where they were needed going by roads.

Thank you, Ryan. Well done remembering the emotional toll taken on those of us who have served in combat.

Cause it's a really good way of moving them.

I wouldn’t say the secretly haul tanks on trains since they are hauled on open flat cars for every to see but the biggest reason tanks specifically are hauled on trains not trucks is that it’s way cheaper. If you hauled tanks on trucks it would be one per truck and every single truck would require overweight permits which get expensive quickly. It’s the same reason Boeing ships their fuselages from Wichita to Seattle on trains not trucks

how "secret" is something that I've seen dozens of times while sitting a RR crossing waiting for the train to pass?
