Even Marx, the #1 capitalist hater, had investments! He believed it extracts capital from the big bads, it's not producing any new value or exploitation (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PSIWfZHfcM&t=894">14:54</a>), and that it's sometimes necessary to survive within the system. He was in poverty when he was exiled in London and found that sometimes you need to play their game just to stay on the board (not die in poverty and be able to work towards your goals)

I didn't know how much I needed something like this. I've been grappling with this topic for years, and you've both settled some issues and at the same time given me more (interesting and productive) issues to think about. Thank you, this was epic.

I've been watching and appreciating TFD for years and this is BY FAR the best video I've seen on TFD. This is exactly what I want more of.

I’ve had great returns while avoiding investments in prisons, AI, arms, fossil fuels, health insurance, surveillance etc. I talk to others about how to do this and it helps spread the idea of people powered investing pressure. There is not an infinite line of people ready to buy unethical stocks. Every vote matters and so does every dollar.

Hello! Fellow social worker here. I recently had a patient tell me that they cannot invest or save in a HYSA because it is considered Haram. We did a much deeper dive into the reasoning behind why this is haram and I found it really interesting and also found that it sort aligned with the topic of this video. Thank you for sharing, there will always be levels to this and tons of intersectionality.

They aren't really scared of The Perfect Communist living in ethical disenfranchised poverty. What they are scared of is leftists who stay focused on the goal, but don't have scruples. Lots of people participating in the capitalist system to some degree who look like normies on the surface but quietly invest resources and time back into anti-capitalist causes and organizing. Engels redirected resources from his personal wealth and the assets of his capitalist entrepreneurial family into things that ended up causing grievous pain to capitalism.

I can’t afford to not invest. I can’t rely on social security, or an inheritance. I have to make my own way and many people are in the same boat with me. I am environmentally friendly and ethical in a lot of other things I do daily so I hope that makes up for it.

If you want to make a change in the world, you must have the resources for it. A poor man cry mean nothing, but a million dollar can sway certain things in life. Make sure you have the option, not the moral high ground that amounted to nothing and to no one that such resources could help.

Does investing make you a bad person?" – That's actually a deep question. It's not about the money, it's about where you put it. Ethics in finance needs more conversations like this. 👏

I have struggled with this.<br>I took my money out of the stock market at the beginning of this administration. From a financial perspective it was foolish, I know.<br>How to survive financially in a burning, exploitative world, without supporting exploitative systems is a razor’s edge.
