It is crazy the things we take for granted in our lives that could one day just vanish. The people behind the scenes working to protect our food THANK YOU.

the funny thing about the banana is that it's the SECOND time this has happened. There used to be a sweeter, tastier banana called Gros Michel. A fungus wiped out a lot of plantations, so they switched. Gros Michel is still around, but production is mostly small and local

"Eat the mold!" Is precisely what I'd expect people who are mind controlled by the mold to say! You're not fooling me, I've seen through your tricks, fungi people!

I appreciate that whoever designed the cheese-stabbing machine thought to force the operator to use both hands to make the stabby bits come out.

A salute to those early people who died eating and testing molds on cheeses.

The banana has died out before. The banana we have today is a replacement for the first mass-produced banana, which was a different cultivar. If you've ever wondered why bananas don't taste much like bananas anymore, that's the reason. The original breed was much sweeter and tasted more like artificial banana flavor. However, a fungus killed almost all of them, so they switched to the variety we have today, which has much less flavor and is much starchier. They had to switch because the new breed is resistant to the fungus. Now, history is repeating itself because there is a new fungus, and the new breed has the same problem again.

I like how that New Zealandic cheesemaker just found some random mold on hay and domesticates it

Notice the safety mechanism at the very beginning requiring both hands to push the stab cheese button to ensure neither is underneath the cheese stabber when it activates
