It should be noted that YASA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz since 2021.

Forget about cars, I want this tiny biscuit in an aircraft application. Regional airline fixed wing with room for 30ish people looks viable with latest motor and battery techs.

It seems like aviation would be a good fit for this technology.

Would be a big gain for light aircraft pilots if these motors are certified for aviation.

I always love to picture a modern day rotary engine style aircraft with these.
A modern beaver or P-47.

The gigantic application is normal cars with ICE like performance. I note a continuous 20 kWh is a common axial flux motor size produced in China. Given that continuous power, max power is likely 40 kW.
YASA should produce a robust continuous 800V, 20 kWh version with oil/air cooling and brake (drum?) in one unit. Have common inverter box under the hood that supplies 3-phase, 800V to the four separate wheel motors and 48V(?) to each of the oil pump and brake motor and data cables from motor and brake back to the inverter box. A unit for each wheel allows vector steering and maximises braking energy recovery. As the motor-brake is in a vulnerable position, best not to mount it on the motor unit. Reduces replacement costs.
The basic motor/brake unit could be common for many vehicle types, with the inverter box in three types - 1, 2 & 4 wheel drive. The hub mount could have a common attachment for two and four wheel drive. The motor-brake units will need to come in Left and right side units.
Very low power versions (on a printed circuit board) could be developed for e-bikes and e-scooters.
Surely, Formula E will go to these units. Could use motors rated to 200 kW peak.

You skipped right over the part where these are getting used for electric aircraft too! Note the 'Evolito' stamp on the casing in the exploded diagram at 9:10 🙂 That's Yasa's aerospace spin off company.
