  I don&apos;t get motorcycle hate from the motorcycle community. If you like motorcycles, just ride what you like or can afford. I myself like Harleys, but I&apos;m not going into financial debt for it. I went to one motorcycle event, and it was totally segregated by the type of bikes that attended. I&apos;ll stick to riding solo.

  The older I get the more I feel the need for wearing protective gear. Got hit by a drunk driver when I was 18 and did the belly flop and pavement slide. My full face helmet and leather jacket took the brunt of that one. My Levi 501s were perfectly wearable the next day. I have found the most dangerous parts of the ride isn&apos;t the twistys or unexpected potholes. It&apos;s intersections.

  The wife and I have rode for years . 2 years ago We finally joined the Harley herd . After two years of ownership we decided it wasn’t for us . Went and test rode a new Goldwing and fell in love with motorcycling again.

  My first bike was a Yamaha Road Star, and when I went to a rally at my local Harley dealership, I literally had people mocking and laughing at me. I ride a Harley now but looking back, what a crappy way to introduce a new rider to the riding culture.

  Harley Rider here: I buy Harleys because thats what my friend (RIP) and I looked at when we were kids. As soon as I felt comfortable riding, I went straight to his grave and told him about it. Whenever I visit, I ride, because he and I were gonna ride together. That was in &apos;07

  On the topic of motorcycle snobbery, after I had retired from my law enforcement career, I decided to upgrade my ride and purchased a new Triumph Rocket III Touring. That was in 2012 and I still own and ride it today. All my retired friends went out and bought their shiny, overly chromed Harleys and chided me for my choice of rides. &quot;Why didn&apos;t you get a Harley?&quot; &nbsp;&quot;You NEEEEED to get a Harley!&quot; &nbsp;My standard reply to them is &quot;Because I refuse to downsize.....&quot; &nbsp; &nbsp;Silence.

  I&apos;ll never forget being told how many friends i would lose if i traded my Harley for a Goldwing. &nbsp;Nah, they weren&apos;t my friends if they only liked me because i rode a Harley... They just wanted their ego inflated being around other Harley riders... They didn&apos;t care about who they were with.
