  We are in our mid to late 70’s, but still pretty active. We have been in our house almost 50 years, but we only have a 1,700 sq ft one story house. But 3 years ago, we had new flooring and carpet placed throughout the house. We took about 2 months going through each room, and painting them along the way. It was so nice getting rid of some excess furniture and clutter. So even though we didn’t move, we are so happy we did it when we did, and so much happier w less.

  I have art my family has given me. I downsized into a one BR apt and my granddaughter gave me a digital frame. So I put all art and family pictures on that. I keep the frame in the living room and it makes me happy to see pics of special art along with family photos.

  We just did this, 3400 sf to 1100 sf just a few blocks away. &nbsp;You are right about sharing space being the main adjustment. &nbsp;We are very happy with this move. &nbsp;It’s like going back to that first apartment-a full circle 44 years later. &nbsp;We are only 63 and 68 and enjoying life here in the Inland Empire. &nbsp;So good to make all of the downsizing decisions out of choice instead of necessity

  I&apos;m the family memory keeper. A couple years ago I started buying vintage briefcases that I felt matched the personality of the family member (tapestry for a grandma who was crafty, a legal briefcase for my attorney dad, travel/life-worn for my brother, etc...). I fill the briefcase with memories of that person – pictures, letters, small momentos, artwork, embroidery... Whatever fits in the briefcase can stay, everything else goes. My daughter and I have fun getting a briefcase out, looking through the items and talking about that person. Our family is small, so we won&apos;t get overwhelmed by briefcases. 😆<br>They can also make a cute, neat display in a living room or family room without looking like clutter.
