Crazy! It's not a sewing machine, it's a serger (or overlock). I figured it out halfway through but didn't really believe it because they're so complex. It's ONLY job is to cut off the edge and sew up the straight seam like that. I've never seen one so tiny! Or sooo old! I didn't know they made treadle sergers, I assumed they were a very new invention. Super cool!

Such absolute marvels of machinery. No CAD, no CNC, all hand designed and manual machined. Those engineers and fabricators were like the chip manufacturers of their day.

I would've never got that back together. They had to have had a contest to see who could come up with the most difficult engineered machine.
