    This wonderful documentary is as much about the audience as about the medium itself.  The 'eager complicity' of the audience in accepting the illusion of motion is a wonderful insight into the naivety of the collective imagination. Movies could inspire love and heroism, but also loathing and racism. The first great  movie success, the Birth of a Nation, promoted the rebirth of the Ku Klux Klan.

    The Lumiere brothers&apos; cinema in Paris was on Rue de Rivoli (named after the town near Verona and scene of Napoleon&apos;s great victory in the Italian campaign).It then follows<br> that many cinemas today are called the &quot;Rivoli&quot;

    Clocking at 50m-46s this is a wonderful mini-doc overview of the technological and artistic nativity of film as an art, craft and industry, despite any of the omissions, <s>obvious or subtle</s> noted below. a great inspirational way to begin my day!

    Thanks for summing this up in under 1 h.<br>If this is how you teach your students, they have a hell of a teacher. Also, as a non-native English speaker, you&apos;re not hard to follow.

    Excellently presented! &nbsp;My only nitpick is not mentioning the goon squads Edison regularly sent out against rivals who hadn&apos;t paid his trust fees/extortion. &nbsp;They would beat cast and crew as well as destroy expensive equipment. &nbsp; No wonder movie makers relocated to what became Hollywood.
