I dated a woman that was in culinary when I was in the Army. She was really proud of that job and the people she worked with as well. I never did KP, it wasn't in my wheelhouse. I did eat their food and it was good. Got to see what she did. In return, I got to get her to see what I did. I was a Blackhawk helicopter Crew Chief and was able to get her a flight. It's pretty cool when you see everything that's going on. Makes you appreciate everybody all the more.

Almost brings me the tears just looking at this. I’ve spent many of meals eating from these different army systems and being the maintainer of those systems as a maintenance manager in the military. Seems like a lifetime ago already.

I'm Algerian. I used to be a cook, preparing couscous and grilling lamb in the Algerian Sahara. Tourists loved Algerian food in the Tassili n'Ajjer desert.

As a retired Army LTC, I will always appreciate the dedicated mess personnel. Meals are incredibly important. I volunteered for KP as a SGT and got the best food, milk and ice cream. Thanks!

Military culinary specialists have my highest regard. They cook their asses off. On of my best friends who passed way some years ago was a culinary specialist in the US Navy. After he retired from service he opened a foster home on the west side of Chicago. That man fed a whole neighborhood. If you knew Chef Guyland Hill, you ate good. He was a good man. Helluva cook.

I can tell you, getting a hot fresh meal, while doing field training, over a nasty MRE, will make your day! We would eat till there was no food left!

Nothing like some good chow after a long hard day of training in the field. Also when you’re on KP duty you get extra goodies. Always be good to your cooks and supply.
