The parents blaming their daughter for their bad food habit infuriated me so much. "She loves it" you're the parent??? you're the one with the money???

She made the first step to lose weight and you're shoving the object of her addiction in front of her teenager's brain that barely developed impulse control yet

Sadly, something that broke me from the food addiction was getting a dog. I didn’t want the dog to be fat. So I cooked it healthy quality foods and measured portions carefully. One day it dawned on me that I cared more about my dog’s health than my own.

When I cut out UPF I lost 10 pounds without even trying, and my depression cleared up. I wasn't even trying to lose weight, or consciously monitoring what I was eating. Today, I will sometimes eat UPF, but as a treat and never my main source of calories for a meal. As a side effect, I've become a lot better at cooking (something I already enjoyed).

one mind shift i did that helped me almost completely stay away from UPFs is just not referring to them or thinking of them as "food" anymore. i think of them as industrial gunk PRETENDING to be food, and that's just helped me choose whole foods over UPFs almost all the time. maybe once a month or two, i'll have a bit of those potato chips if they're at a friend's place, but otherwise, i've completely removed them from my life.

This was me. I grew up with a single mother who never cooked. By the time I was 12 100% of my diet was upfs and fast food. My mom was never in the position to cook and we were either buying microwave meals or in the drive thru. My appetite got bigger as I gained weight and no one ever checked it. Even reflecting on my elementary school packed lunches, I was regularly consuming over 1000 calories in one meal. Right before I lost weight I feel deeply into my addiction to the point where I went into debt, and was malnourished because I had convinced myself that my body would only accept packaged food. It’s still a struggle, but at 20 years old and 100lbs down, I’m finally breaking this cycle.

Parents lack personal responsibility. I can tell you as an obese kid who was shamed I completely understand how these kids feel. When your drug of choice is constantly in your face, and then you are shamed for not being able to resist it. At the end of the day it was my parents who purchased the groceries and brought them home. In my own home now, my biggest fight has been with the adults in My family who couldn’t stop buying ultra processed foods. Finally after several months of fighting; oat meal, yogurt and whole grain bread is the most processed foods we have. My children are at a healthy weight and very active but I had to overhaul the diet of our entire household and I myself am actively pursuing movement and food that would support building muscle. The kids don’t have options and as parents we need to take accountability for what we feed them.

As a child I hated my mom’s junk food ban. She stopped buying soda, no fast food, limited sugar, no excess of snacks and she cooked from scratch every night… now I am so glad she kept me away from UPFs

I remember one of your videos where you referred to UPFs as basically pre-digested food because of how processing removes nutrients. That helps me not want to eat it as much.
