I work at a title 1 school. I will say this as absolute truth, about 75% of the parents that I have phone called because of their child's behavior, the parent never answers the phone or calls back.  Sometimes the parent's phone is even disconnected. I have tried to email them with no response either. So when you have an out of control child in your room and there is no way to contact the parent, what else are you supposed to do? There is very little or no support from admin, and they discourage us from writing referrals.  And, even when referrals are written, the consequence they receive does not match their behavior.  We even had an admin at one of our meetings tell us that writing referrals does not change student's behavior.  So, I'm thinking, what in the world are we doing writing referrals then? This is very devastating for our schools, and also the few well-behaved children in the classrooms who actually are trying to learn. Their education is being sabotaged by these out of control kids that have no real consequences. It truly is a nightmare.

They are gonna hate it when the system collapses from a lack of teachers. There goes their daycare.

A fact I learned as a new teacher is to NEVER ask admin for help.  They will use that request as evidence against you when budget cuts require layoffs.  The unspoken belief is, "If you were an effective teacher, you would not have behavior problems in your class".  Therefore, the teacher must deal with these problem alone.

At my last school, this parent would stalk me and was telling everyone in the community that I was racist. It got so bad that I had to get a lawyer to send a cease and desist letter. A week later the principal wrote me up, saying that sending a legal letter was “unprofessional.” Getting stalked and harassed by these psycho parents is just a part of the job in her view.

a parent of an eight-year-old toddler accused me of withholding lunch.  The kid had a lunchbox full of celery, carrots, and other healthy food, but when he saw the school lunch, he wanted a corn dog.  Now, I don't know if this kid had allergies or was on a special diet, so I told him to eat the food he brought.  It turned out that he had brought his snack box instead of his lunch box.  After school, Parent said it was all my fault because his Minecraft box was his lunch, and his Paw patrol box was his snack box.  She told me about this, then demanded why I hadn't used that information three hours ago at lunch.  I explained that time travel hadn't been invented yet.

Unfortunately, too many parents these days are immature, entitled adolescents themselves. That said,  I wonder how many of these  "children" who have adolescent parents end up homeless

Children are running education and their parents are complicent in the downfall of it all. When I had a parent YANK my degrees off the wall and tell me I was "stupid" and she knew more than me, that is when I started looking for a way out. It was when my  physical safety became an issue and the child's parent sat in a meeting and berated me, swearing at me, laughing at me, while her kid sat there with his hands in the basic area of his crotch, smug smirk and laughing, I quit.

And then schools wonder why they can't find teachers, esp. the good ones. What are parents going to do, when we end up loosing all of or most of our schools?

I’m only in my 2nd year. The amount of disrespect that I deal with is astronomical.

Schools will always say you “have to call home.” My advice to new teachers is to never call home unless absolutely necessary. Parents will lie and twist what you say, and it is better to have everything in writing. Admin will throw you under the bus.
