The white album has more variety in it's track listing than most bands have in their entire careers. That just shows that whoever says that The Beatles are overrated is full of bs

Haven't seen the video yet, but I salute Abby's decision to say what everybody thinks and crown Revolution 9 as the greatest song ever recorded

A very accurate vision of the times from someone so young! I still remember my first listen! I was 16 and had just been thrown out of the house by my father, in my underwear in the snow. My mother secretly opened a window and threw me a blanket. I quickly ran the few hundred yards down the hill to Haverford Hospital, and hid under a stairwell to keep from freezing. I stole some clothes out of the laundry and when the sun came up I walked to my best friends house. He drove us over to Haverford College where two more friends that we were in a band with, were hanging out. The bass player was majoring in History. He had a dorm room with a record player on the floor. The White Album had just come out, so I sat on the rug, put some headphones on and dropped the needle! While everyone was passing around joints and almost falling out the window, I was having my mind blown! As you can imagine it all made perfect sense! The jumble of songs fell right in with my mood, the war, Nixon, assassinations and where I was going to lay my head that night. The Beatles and my life were falling apart together! As a result I felt great comfort and relate-ability. As I listened, everything slid back to normal and I fit right in! Needless to say, as soon as I could, I got my own White Album, which I still have today! So yes, the sixties were full of turmoil! The generation gap was a very real thing to me and many of my contemporaries! I don't think the nation ever really recovered! It permanently split the country in two!

One of YouTubes great mysteries is how a reviewer this awesome, who puts so much work in and adds a whole bundle to our feelings and knowledge about our favourite albums, can have so few subscribers. One day your boat will come in Abi x

Please excuse me, the Sgt. Pepper artwork was done by another important British exponent of the Pop Art movement: Peter Blake. Guess this flaw happened in a hurry since it's a commonplace.

Anyway, I find it interesting how Blake's playfulness and Hamilton's undercooled sense of irony is echoed in both Beatles cover arts.

Of all the Beatles, to me John reached the highest highs with meditative, hypnotic songs like Dear Prudence and Julia. They have an eloquent, mystical quality and stand outside of time. They cast a spell on you, where a minute could be a year or a lifetime.

"Bungalow Bill" being worn out on your copy: the owner had children. I was a little kid when the White album was still fresh and my brother and I loved Bungalow Bill and made our Mom play it again and again. Oh, and HELTER SKELTER ⚡💀⚡
