Great movie, but it absolutely neutered the Borg: It turned them from a terrifying, unstoppable force of nature into a gang whose "Achilles' Heel" is always a single over-confident villain.

Cromwell was a an old TNG hand. He deserved the Cocrane role and did a fantastic job. Hanks would have been neat, but Cromwell was the better pick. Similarly, Frakes deserved the director's chair and did a fantastic job.

Patrick Stewart has spoken fondly about playing Locutus and enjoyed the makeup transformation, but there are no contemporary interviews or production accounts indicating he campaigned for Picard to remain a Borg.

A REnaissance approach sounds interesting... Aside from Enterprise constantly fighting the Nazis, their interfacing with history, have been some of the best episodes.
