Bro, these throws are deadly. I’m always shocked how judoka don’t really get life altering injuries, but I could be wrong.

Agree, the Tokyo grand slam yielded some of the best ippons. With four entrants in each division, Japan demonstrated the potential future champions in the ranks.

That nanosecond where your body and mind realizes you’re going over is the worst. You can literally feel your body is out balance or out of position and it’s the worst!

I wonder about that "obi tori gaeshi" towards the end. That's just taking your opponent and driving their head on the mat by falling on your back. Like if you can't have a hair touch the mat doing sode with leg grab/belt grab, why can you just drop your weight on opponent's head smashing the mat? That's what I don't quite get. Like with that grip and drop is there even much control for the uke to choose the way they land or do ukemi? Doesn't much look like it. Even if he let go of the tori's back, what more can he do than extend his arm and break the wrist? Maybe he bends his neck sideways a bit and perhaps rotates to roll over, but it's still something similar to why not just allow standing kata guruma as well.

Anyway, the year had quite a lot of beautiful ippons. And some less common techniques or variations as well. I think it was a good year of judo for sure.
