It happened to me once in the past after I finished university. When the boss quit, I was chosen to replace her. Before she left, she told me if I am happy now, that I got what I wanted. I told her that I never wanted this and was just doing my job. Apparently, I won a game that I didn't even know I was playing. Which was an important lesson.

My boss secretly changed my role classification in WorkDay to give me a demotion in the back-end personnel pages. She then hid this from upper leadership, me, and everyone else. Well, I figured it out. I went to HER boss, and she immediately fixed it. After all, the original job posting and my signed appointment letter from HR said one thing. I know she did it to try and ruin my opportunities for future promotions, by making sure I would never have the right management experience in the system. Anyway, I reported it, and now she's under investigation. We'll see what happens.

I have a supervisor who once was helpful providing constructive information. Upon landing a major milestone, she is now finding ways to make my work less efficient and productive. She's also trying to paint a picture of me among less experience co-workers that's not true to my work ethic.
