  My dad was a lieutenant in charge of a group as a FO. He had a radio man and a couple of GI’s as part of his group. He earned two bronze stars during this time.

  My dad served with "Patton's ghost corps", 376th inf. reg., 94th inf. div. About Jan 15th, 1945, they were engaging the enemy in the town Nennig. That day, dad got hit the left arm and was sent to a rear field hospital for aid. From there he was sent home with a Purple Heart. He had been on the front line since Sep. 1944. He had some fascinating stories from that experience. I wish he had taken the time to write them down! Thank you!

  Credit goes to the truck drivers that kept the FA & Infantry loaded with Ammo. During Vietnam much of it was delivered by helicopters, but still brought by trucks.

  My grandfather was in WW2 I believe he showed up at D-day +4 he drove and operated a radio truck. He was there until the end. When Germany surrendered. He had alot of stories and I would listen to all of them even though I was 8 to 10 years old. I do have his papers. He was credited with 5 bronze stars. I believe from 5 major battles that he took part in.

  Ya know what is freaking crazy? My great grandad rescued a young lady and her family from Luxembourg.  He found her and her two brothers being guarded by a priest with a wooden cross sharpened into a stick within the Basilica Echternach <----not sure if I spelled that right.  They both (pappy and dababa) went back to Luxembourg and died pretty close to where he found her.  They (Dabada mostly) told us that story every time we went to visit.  "Your Pappy is my hero"

  I have performed both sides of fire and maneuver with a group of re-enactors during tactical training. It is very effective, one group provides surpressing fire while the other group goes around and rushes them on the flank. The important part is communication within each group. Once you see the other team approaching the flank you need to call it out and shift fire to the opposite side from where they are coming from. We only had semiautomatic rifles and a singular smg, but we still proved effective against at countering an ambush including one reinforced by a machine gun.

  My father was canadian living in Michigan joined us army in pontiac was in the first wave at Casablanca 30 cal. Machine gunner operation torch was injured later in campaign given citizenship upon discharge

  There's also the fact that playing Army was something most American servicemen had done for a good chunk of their childhoods. They'd been ambushed so many times as ten-year-olds that returning fire immediately was second nature.

  More enemy were killed by artillery fire than small arms fire. Gotta love coordinated operations.
