So I'm a native speaker and the translator did a horrible job.

1:31
"yeah, everyone's like that at first. With pencils, we know that we can always go back to fix mistakes right? And we feel comfortable with it because we used it for so long. But with this(ink) too, you'll see that it's the same if you keep using it. If you keep drawing without sketching, it's the same lines so you don't need to stress about it. Also rather than that, it's better to just use pencil precisely."

No mention of "problem of mindset". No mention of "under all circumstances"

3:46
"Why are you trying to draw it all in one go? Don't be like that. Just sketch with pencil and draw like normal"

basically saying don't stress about it.

She's using very direct, forward language when he's speaking in a laid back, passive way.
To be fair she had to translate it on the spot while I had the luxury of rewinding the video, so it makes sense that her translation would be off.

I think the different and maybe even contradictory advice just speaks to the fact that different things work for different people, and whichever method works best for you is the 'correct' way. By all means, try out new ways of doing things but if it genuinely doesn't work for you, dont sweat it too much lol

One of the most important aspects in drawing is confidence in mark making and the pen forces you to become confident. You have to be more active in fostering that same mindset with a pencil but you can still do it. There's nothing magical about a pen over a pencil in this. What matters is whatever is easier for an individual to get them to commit to lines with confidence and what gets them to draw more often. I find that pens help me more with developing confidence in my lines, and pencils help me more with doodling and being free form and having lots of energy.

I think professional artists, for the most part, only give advice based on their own experience and with no guarantee that it will work for everyone. The problem is that YouTube artists, in order to get views, sell you the idea that they're teaching you the only and correct way to do something. "What NOT to do if you want to be a professional," "the right way to draw," "how to do it right." They create the false idea that there's a perfect way to draw. When in reality, professionals make pencil sketches, they do chicken scratch and don't have every muscle and bone of the body memorized. There's no right or wrong way to draw.

I have a feeling that the real problem is the mindset that we have to find the "most optimal path." It's not just in art; we see this mindset in regard to all things, all over the western world, and consequently, all over YouTube - fastest way to lose weight, fastest way to build muscle, best way to practice piano, quick and easy way to write a novel, best way to tick all the boxes on your bucket list, most rapid results in this, easiest way to learn that....

That's the whole problem. Learning any really tricky thing is going to take a lot of time, and a lot of making errors and stumbling down blind alleys. That's part of the process, and it is what will turn you into a mature and well rounded artist and person. Yes, it's hard work, but it's also supposed to be fun, not? So why would we want the fun to be over as fast as possible?

Relax. Watch various tutorials. Try out various media and styles and approaches. Take years and years to mature. Even better: NEVER quite mature. That way every day remains an interesting, fun challenge, instead of beginning to feel like a job.

Beginners, of any craft, always obsess over the tools.
It's not about the tools, it's about just doing it.

i don't get attached to my sketches therefore all tools are equally not scary to me if i make a mistake i'll draw something else on the next page

I remember Kim Jung Gi said the only reason why he draws in ink with no under drawing was because he became a teacher and it took too long to draw everything in pencil and then ink over it while having to teach. Then he just got used to it and got famous for being able to draw in ink with no under drawing so it became part of the performance. But before then he used pencil and also liked drawing with colored pencil. I've also seen his Chinese classrooms where he used pencil to teach. Kim Jung Gi was a teacher first and performer second along with getting industry gigs and commissions.

I agree with it being a mindset thing. The best thing about art is something you mentioned. It works in different ways for different people and it's very attached to trail and error. Getting to know yourself through trying different mediums is part of what makes it fun and unique to the person creating it.

I use a pen lately, I didn't get the advice to use a pen, I just liked the lines and wanted to get confidence, be less precise. Pencil tempts you to spend more time fixing and improving the drawing. Pen allows you to skip a few stages at expense of quality (for less experienced artists like me). I think it's better to use both pen and pencil to develop different areas, funny, but lately I was noticing how my drawings are less detailed and thought about using pencil, because "make more details" Skill degrades so to speak if you don't detail the work. And thats bad. Very fine pen can be used to add details, but again, the precision might suffer, that exact temptation to overwork your drawing the pencil gives.

So... Yeah, imo, nothing groundbreaking in this, its important to draw in different ways to develop different areas and not degrade the others.

I personally just love ink and pen, lol, so its a bit difficult to move to pencil for me. I think its also laziness.
