  After listening, I walked outside here in my tiny island community of Hrísey Island in Iceland and a neighbour was clearing out his cellar and had piled books on the street free for all to take. I quickly recognised a 1963 translation of this novel and started to read it. It’s a revelation, the book my life was waiting for! A masterpiece! What a coincidence or a divine intervention. Suddenly I have a new favourite novel of all time! Big thanks forever! ❤ from Iceland.

  I am Italian and even I am 57 now I read this book just a couple of months ago. I regretted not having read it earleir not because of the historical events in it, yet because reading it I would have learned about sicilians and why they are the way they are much earlier. 10  pages, maybe even less, when the Prince of Salina explains  to the  envoy of the Cavour why he, the Prince, is going to turn down Cavour's offer of becoming a senator of the new state, that, in my opinion, explain sicilians better than any sociologue has never done. 10 pages of pure enjoyment.

  My local library system has 4 hard copies of this. Two days after this podcast was released, they're all out or on hold.

  Funny Story.<br><br>I checked the podcast schedule, saw The Leopard, and grabbed it from the library. Spent a week reading it, wondering why they’d chosen the 8th book in the Harry Hole swedish crime series.<br>You can imagine my surprise when I hit play on this episode.<br><br>No regrets though its an amazing book!

  I remember watching &quot;The Leopard&quot; many years ago &amp; how marvelous Burt Lancaster was in the role. Lancaster was the Prince come to life in that movie.

  I really enjoyed your comments on the ‘sensual prose’, the idealism of the young Tancredi, and yes I’m also a fan of Claudia Cardinale. It brought back memories of learning about the Italian unification in school. This has become my favourite podcast, though I am waiting in vain for an episode on The Count of Monte Christo.

  Of course one can have insomnia and nightmares! You lay awake for hours and when you finally nod off, you have nightmares. I had that for years. Barely slept and then woke up screaming sometimes.
