  Thank you for showing so many pages. Although I knew Sorolla's paintings and have seen some originals in exhibitions, I was unaware of his excellent drawings. After watching your video I looked for the book online, but was unable to find a place to order it, except for one listing on Amazon for over $600. I'll keep looking.

  I believe that the essence of painting, regardless of whether it is figurative or abstract, is "to be able to perceive the part and the whole at the same time," and I think he is able to do that.

  Here is a task for Taschen. To publish a Spanish/English version. Sorolla is very appreciated in Europe. It will be sold.

  Sorolla is widely loved in Spain, but rather unknown outside (athough there was a recent exhibition at the National Gallery in London). Originally from Valencia (where I'm from), he was so successful in his lifetime (don't forget his contribution to the Hispanic Society in NY) that he had a big house and studio built in Madrid. Today, this is the Casa-Museo Sorolla, a must if you visit Madrid (and a bit off the beaten track). The garden itself in the house is beautiful, and Sorolla was also a great painter of gardens (this was eclipsed by his most famous Valencia beach scenes). He was also a great portrait painter (the Prado has wonderful examples). At the moment, his house-museum in Madrid is under renovation work and being extended into a couple of buildings behind, so it's unfortunately closed. He has become a Valencia icon (like Gaudí in Bcn, Joyce in Dublin, etc.) and the high-speed train station in Valencia was named after him: Valencia-Joaquín Sorolla. That sketch book is a treasure!

Manel Plana Sicilia, a living legend in Spain, mainly a watercolorist, and of the same region as Joaquin Sorolla, who lived and studied in my barrio of Valencia, Spain.
