‘It’s ok to be shattered by the evils of history’ : Great quote right there.

in my experience, when Catholics use this against us they're hoping we won't look into their own history. As protestants, we can be absolutely ashamed of the ugliness of our history and continue to reform the church. Semper Reformanda.

Wow!! Balthasar Hubmaier wrote a treatise when he was nine years old that is still being read today! That’s amazing!!! Must have been a real wunderkind!

I was worried about watching this video. I shouldn’t have been, knowing Gavin’s integrity.

What is great about protestantism is that you don't have to 'venerate' past Christians and pretend they never did anything wrong.

The Bible says in NT to mark and avoid false teachers. Not to burn them. The reformers were wrong on this one.

I’m halfway through Bullies and Saints and, I can confirm, that it is a great book!

I cannot help but think of Saul and Stephen. Saul felt he was entirely justified in his involvment in Stephen's martyrdom. A couple points cone to mind: 1. Just because it was justified under the law does not prevent it from being rightfully called murder.

2. I am not making Servetus synonymos with Stephen or Calvin with Saul, theologically, or even metaphorically. The connection is simply made to reflect on the mercy of Christ over even such things a murder in name of heresy.

3. Orlund's emphasis on humility is foundational.

Great video.

Anabaptists actually MENTIONED in a discussion that doesn’t treat them as a curiosity or whackos? Super refreshing to see, I thank you Gavin.
