This is my dream come true. Seen her 16 times since 2003. First time I accidentally bought a "pre show" ticket and I ended up in a classroom with 20 people. She walks in and starts banging on the piano and played 3 songs. Then my phone got a text that was the tmobile (da da da dee da). She played it a millisecond later and the room laughed. Then she took our questions. I asked her how she makes fusion out of classical, jazz, funk. She replied saying she loves Frank Zappa and composers like Chopin, and started to play a Chopin bass line and then she said, and then I swing it. And then I improvise. She took a Chopin bassline, swung it and then blew us away by improvising on top. I was a music major at Columbia College Chicago when this happened and im still pinching myself. It was her sonicbloom band that was like watching aliens. Saw her trio band too. Ive seen all her bands. Even 5 nights in a row in a stl jazz club with just her and Stanley Clarke acoustic. Mind blowing and the most grateful fly on a wall that could ever exist.

What a pleasant surprise to discover Hiromi on Rick's show ! I am still very proud to be her French publicist, a role I have held since 2009. She is an exceptional musician, dazzling to hear and watch perform. She truly deserves recognition, and her talent deserves greater exposure. Thank you very much, Rick 🙏

Even though Ms. Hiromi is the featured guest, I must compliment Rick on his depth of knowledge of music AND people in his interview. His questions are so perfect to invoke her responses. Mr. Beato is a treasure! Without him, no one is recording these virtuosos’ experiences, opinions, anecdotes and thoughts.

Additionally, the channel’s production standards are world class. Bravo Rick.

Hey Rick. Thank you so much for this brilliant interview with a stunningly talented musician. Aside from the obvious fact that she is other worldly in her talent, her thought process on musicians such as Oscar Peterson or Errol Garner was absolutely eye opening. I very rarely would sit and listen to an interview for 65 minutes consecutively. I was completely engaged listening to both her playing and her thought process and insights. I really wish that I had come across her a month or two ago, as I saw that she just played the Blue Note in NYC. I would have loved to have seen her “live”.

In addition, I love how you asked her to explain some of the terms she used. Most really talented artists that I have listened to over the last 55+ years understand and appreciate the artists that have come before them. They don’t try to replicate those artists, but rather understand that perhaps they could do things themselves that they may not have thought possible previously.

I have sent this to several friends, and each of
them were so impressed and thankful that I shared it with them.
