  Nuclear worker here. &nbsp;The contaminated gloves come off last! You do not want to touch your other contaminated clothing with your bare hands. &nbsp;Also bathe or wash in the coldest water possible. &nbsp;It will close up your pores so you do not absorb contamination as easy.

  Some tips on radiation.<br><br>Edit: I have a full response video on my channel if you want a deep dive analysis on all the mistakes in this video. <br><br>Gamma can go thru just about everything. Time/Distance/Shielding is the best defense. Lead is the best &quot;blocker&quot; of gamma but it will never block all of it. Practice ALARA - As Low As Reasonably Achievable.<br><br>Beta is easier to stop. They move fast but can be stopped by thin layers of metal or thick clothing<br><br>Alpha particles can be stopped by paper so its really only an inhalation or absorption hazard (hence covering your skin and cuts)<br><br>X-Ray in large doses can give you cancer and damage tissue<br><br>Generally, radiation is cumulative and builds up over time which is why we use ALARA. ARS is a slow agonizing death where your organs and skin melt off your body while you lay there and there isn&apos;t anything you can do to stop it in a survival environment.<br><br>It is impossible to predict how much radiation you will be dosed with during a nuclear strike, but getting indoors and away from fallout is critical. Along with finding clean sources of water if you dont have it.<br><br>Fission produces Iodine-131, Cesium-137, and Strontium-90 which continue to decay and release radiation. Each with their own half-life. This will be in the fallout. There will be neutron activation near ground zero. You&apos;ll want to avoid all of this if you can, unless you want to live in Tyvek for the rest of your life. 7-10 is a good point to bring up but it takes longer than 72 hours for things to calm down. Remember, its 7 fold meaning 7 TIMES. First 7 hours it falls by an exponent of 10, but after that it wont fall again until 49 huors, then again at 343 hours and so on. At this point tho, the radiation will be at 0.1% of the initial value. Which, depending on where you are and the initial dosing value could still be very fatal. &nbsp;Worth noting that the 7-10 rule only applies to the fissile mixures post detonation and not the fallout leftover afterward. Iodine-131 has a half life of 8 days, Cesium-137 30 years, and Strontium-90 29 years. These are NOT beholden to the 7-10 rule and will not stop radiating beta, beta/gamma, and beta (in order) until the end of their full half life cycle. So no, you are not explicitly safe just because of the 7-10 rule. <br><br>Worth noting here. The clothing Mike chose will not work for blocking fallout. Goretex is breathable and will not effectively block particles from reaching your skin. As a matter of fact, it will probably trap the fallout and dose you constantly. Also, if you are going to tape yourself, tape around the mask too. I know you had to take it off for the video but correctly demonstrating it wouldn&apos;t have taken much extra effort. <br><br>So, while he was going thru the motions correctly, following his guidance exactly (by copying his gear) will still kill you. That is of course if he is actually using the wrong gear. I didn&apos;t hear or see any discussion of what he was wearing specifically so I am left to assume he had a gortex and rain set in his bag like most of us carry. What filters did your mask have? Also, don&apos;t get dressed outside like that. You&apos;re just going to get all the contamination on the inside of your Tyvek. You also used the same clothes that got covered in dust from the blast, so you are doing more harm than good. I know, it&apos;s a demonstration but train as you fight, right? You will need a decon/wash station and an airlock style setup to keep your gear and living space safe.<br><br>Holing up in the basement is a good call, prepackaged water is a good call, always good to have spare parts but keep them in a faraday bag, not a plastic box. Great point about underground spring water, but be sure to test it anyway because you cant be sure that its not contaminated via other means (like contaminated trash or humans contacting it up stream somehow).<br><br>Geiger counters are a must but there aren&apos;t many people walking around with a nuke kit in their bag considering how low the chances are. We should be realistic about these things when discussing them. Sure, make a nuke kit to augment your bag... but will you have it with you? You can&apos;t carry everything all the time.<br><br>All of this is dependent on your location of course.<br><br>I&apos;ll do a deep dive on this at some point on my channel (its new but I do this stuff for a living) so if you wanna hop over there and subscribe and call me fat I&apos;d love it.
