"Why do you seek blessings in a single painting without looking into your own heart?" Bodhidharma, familiar with his wide-open eyes, thick beard, and red robe. The painting of Bodhidharma, once regarded merely as a talisman to ward off misfortune, was in fact a mirror urging us not to seek blessings from the outside, but to reflect upon our own hearts. From the reason he abandoned his position as a prince in South India to pursue the path of enlightenment, leaving behind the sharp rebuke to Emperor Wu of Liang—a devout Buddhist—that "there is no merit to be gained"; to the nine years of wall-gazing he spent facing the stone wall of Shaolin Temple after crossing a river on a single reed leaf; and even the legend of his departure to the west, leaving only a single straw sandal at his grave. When your heart is shaken by past regrets and future anxieties, encounter the profound teachings of Bodhidharma, the first patriarch of Zen Buddhism, who tells us not to seek the Buddha outside, but to look directly into our inherently pure inner selves. Tonight, may you quietly lay down the burdens of your heart with the wisdom of Bodhidharma. --- ⏱️ [ Timeline / Chapter ] 00:00 The Question Bodhidharma Asks Us in the Painting ("Where Is the Mind?") 02:08 The Reason the Third Prince of South India Cast Off His Crown 05:14 Crossing the Rough Seas to Reach the Unfamiliar Land of China 07:56 Negotiations with Emperor Wu of Liang ("I Have No Merit") 11:50 Vast and Sacred — The Most Sacred Thing Is Empty Silence 15:43 Crossing the River with a Single Leaf: Discarding Wealth and Fame Like a Reed Leaf 16:45 The 9-Year Wall-Facing Practice at Mount Song Shaolin Temple (The Wall-Contemplating Brahmin) 22:55 The Four Practices of Entering the World — Four Mind Cultivations to Practice in Daily Life 26:30 Accepting the Last Poison (The End of Karma and a Detached Death) 30:05 Witnessing the Mountain Path of Chongling and the Straw Sandals in the Grave A Pair (Legend of Cheokri Seogwi) 34:00 The True Meaning the Painting of Bodhidharma Conveys to Us 36:30 Next Story Preview: The Second Patriarch, Great Master Huike, Who Sacrificed His Left Arm in a Snowstorm --- 🌿 Serene Wisdom Water Every night, this is a sanctuary where you can momentarily forget the complexities of the world and face your inner wisdom.
