i really enjoyed your summary of the T6.1 Cali ownership.
I’m really impressed your engine has survived 190k mileage as I have read so many people
Slating modern Diesel engines.
I agree with you, dealing with the van centres is beyond awful!
Letting someone loose on a premium vehicle that otherwise deals with builders and decorators vans is not acceptable.
Even trying to park at the service centres is shocking with very limited parking.
The reception staff are so rude and argumentative.
I have only recently had issues with a booking arrangement that has gone sour. I even contacted VWCS who promised to sort things and come back to me but unsurprisingly haven’t bothered leaving me to find somewhere else to do the work.
As for warranty repairs, well you can just about forget that if it relates to the habitation side of the vehicle.
I know VW are in trouble and in my opinion deservedly so. The number of excuses as they worm their way out of any warranty repairs is beggars’ belief.

You mentioned the driver’s seat reversal.
Agreed that too is diabolical. We tend not to swivel ours anymore as it’s so much trouble.
The overhead locker has proven to have a weakness in ours and has collapsed one side due to a bolt and plastic gear coming adrift. An easy fix but I’m careful not to overload as a result. We’ve also had the typical faults like the sliding door handles cracking and motorised roof sagging in hot weather.

Your 5 gripes, the pop top its a summer thing autumn winter yiu need a wrap . Ive got a rainbow wrap and its brilliant so situation solved. Drivers seat just a bit of fettling once you got the hang of it no problem. Front blinds i git some plugs from ebay game changer! Sorted! Table no rattles if you park it correctly! And finally servicing I must be lucky (shout out to Canterbury) nice people no problems, had a problem with my fridge catch (not the easyest job) sorted first time! Always pleasent 5year service package so far been great. T6.1 has to be the most amazing camper van, so much cleaver storage 30 years of development shows. Ive had + 52mpg on trips and an average 42.6mpg overall. Best camper van by far.

Hi. Great video! The problem you have with turning the driver's seat is due to it being RHD. On LHD, like mine turning the seat, which is now the passenger seat, is easy. My comments on the California are almost all positive as are yours. I love it. My negatives are I think VW are penny pinching on a near perfect, expensive vehicle, when the drawer set in the kitchen are extra (and VERY expensive) and likewise the ladder for getting into the pop top. Climbing all over the seats is just wrong.

Brilliant analysis of the VW California. I have a new T7 hybrid which is superb BUT the main dealer van centre’s are truly AWFUL. Poor attention to detail. Arrogant at best and never clean my vehicle. Not good enough for a vehicle costing in excess of 80 grand.
