Those guys did a brilliant job building in harsh conditions. They had to performed at the highest level everyday. That is engineering at its best.

Just the engineering plan is amazing but the implementation of the plan by the builders is incredible!!!

I made the trip to the top via the cable car in 1976. We took the trip up to Garmisch from Vicenza, Italy to ski up in the bowl. We were from an American paratrooper battalion so we thought we were pretty much fearless. Well, let me tell you, none of us were smiling on that trip up which went right through the clouds! Was a scene right out of Clint Eastwood’s Where Eagles Dare!

Been on there a few years ago, sunny and warm at ground level , at the top a snow storm , can always say I was the highest person in Germany on that day.
