  I have been watching videos of people climbing Mt Everest. This trek looks far more interesting and worthwhile, and whole lot less dangerous.

  The views at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpkdxLET2bs&amp;t=1585">26:25</a> are breathtaking. It&apos;s easy to imagine the Incas feeling a divine connection in the presence of such natural beauty.

  I did it just before my 60th birthday in 3 days of rain. &nbsp;Loved it. South America is wonderful

  Like you I found the trek very challenging but so worth it. I started day 2 with vomiting and diarrhoea but my husband would not let me give up and said he would carry me if he had to as it was something I always wanted to experience. (He didn’t have to). What I found humbling were the amazing porters who carried incredible weights of equipment at three times our speed then clapped us when we arrived. We were clapping them, amazing people!

  For any one walking this trail, I recommend buying a bag of coca leaves from the Cusco market. You can chew them and they help with the altitude and give you more energy.

  Did this as a 45 year old in 2003 and found it okay, but I&apos;d been at high altitude (2,000m+) for over a month. 2 days in Cusco isnt enough IMO, you need at least a week. <br><br>Hiking at altitude can be &nbsp;extremely tough, no matter how fit you are. But the experience is absolutely incredible, I&apos;ve never done anything like it since or before, so it&apos;s worth the effort. . . . the porters are truly amazing human beings.<br><br>By the way, there was a 65 yo German lady in my group and she almost kept up with porters! She kept us all going and was unbelievably inspirational. <br><br>I&apos;d like to try it again in my 70s, but that dream could easily turn into a nightmare!<br><br>Thanks for sharing :)

  I did that in 1989 in 3 days, had to cook and set up my tent too, no help at all. <br>I&apos;ll never forget that.
