I read an interesting article a while ago about how architects are trained to love styles that everyone else agrees are ugly, and despise styles that the common populace finds beautiful. This episode is a case in point.

Telling us that the grey colour is “warm” , could only have been uttered by an “interior designer” ( or an estate agent or a second-hand car dealer )

There's something very lazy, low brow and unconvincing about this series. The winning architect designed house showcases no real design flair, insight or innovation, especially being directly overlooked by the neighbours 2 large windows, without any screening. The builder grade flooring and decor arrive next, and then there's the planted roof garden, which is beyond laughable. This may as well be an estate agent tour, or an exercise in self publicity for those with inflated ego's, as in reality it provides little more. The judges seem desperate to find anything truly inspiring to comment on. These aren't homes of the year, but rather nice enough, average gaffs. The producers would do well to watch the Caroline Quentin and Piers Taylor series, for examples of thoughtful and innovative design, rather than DIY SOS.
