As a 14-year old boy with no combat experience whatsoever I can confirm I would not survive as a soldier in the American Revolution.

Your immune system would be the most important factor.

I have a Hessian ancestor. He was 18 when he went to North America and was terrifed of Washington's army because british soliders would tell him the Rebels were cannibals.

Fast forward he was wounded at a battle of which I forgot at this moment and a rebel helped him and gave him water, food and shelter from the conflict.

He shortly met a pro-USA lass and though "screw this" and he deserted and married her. And lived the rest of his life in the U.S....his son would later join the U.S army in war of 1812

I worked as a land survey technician in the area around Winchester VA. years ago. On a property in the small town of Millwood, we came across three small stones on a little flat bench by a creek. They were of similar size and evenly spaced, about 3 feet apart. It turned out that they were the footstones of Hessian soldiers who had died of disease after being captured at Trenton.

I live in the City of Chesapeake, Virginia. The Battle of Great Bridge took place just down the street from my house. This battle was a decisive patriot win. Its nickname is the "Bunker Hill of the South." After this loss, Lord Dunmore fled to Norfolk, Virginia, and then to his ship. We have a really nice museum at the site of the battle. I highly recommend that anyone passing through Chesapeake check it out.

As an American I really appreciate hearing this from the other perspective. In school and just in general the revolution is often dramatized and romanticized into absurdity.

Thank you for doing this! One of my relatives fought and died at the battle of Bunker Hill, I had another one who was THE Ethan Allen! Leader of the Green Mountain boys

The real question is " could you survive in any army at any time ." Most cannot .

So a British man fights in an American regiment, and an American man fights in a British regiment.... That war truly was a civil one, I can't but admire these recreations.
