Decluttering Room by Room Is Backwards (My Mexican Mother Did This Instead)

  Thank you Bertha! We lived in an apartment with upstairs bedrooms when I was young. My mother bought small baskets for my brothers and I in colors matching our drinking tumblers and set them on separate steps. During the day she threw into the baskets whatever she found laying around the house - toys, clothes, books - and at bedtime we'd each grab our basket and take it to our room to put away. This taught us to be responsible for our stuff, to put it away nightly, and my mother didn't break her back lugging everyone else's junk up the stairs. ~CaliforniaGirL in Curlew, WA, USA~:eyes-pink-heart-shape:

  2 years ago I was living in a 3 family house in a basement apartment. I lived there for 20 years and never had a bug. Suddenly a new family moved into the 3rd floor and within 6 months the whole house had roaches. I can’t live like that. I must have had 100K worth of things that I bought over the years. I paid some guy with a truck to totally empty the apartment and throw it all out. I moved to my sisters apartment with just a few clothes and stayed there for 6 months until I could buy my own house. It killed my to throw away so many valuable things and things that had sentimental value to me, but I didn’t want to risk bringing anything to my sisters house that could possibly have had roaches in it. I turned off my sentimental values and just made believe that I had a devastating fire and the house was destroyed. I paid a man to throw away my valuable things. It’s okay. It gave me a fresh start and now, I don’t collect so much junk. It’s easier to clean when you don’t have much to get dirty and if you can see into every drawer and cabinet you can tell if you see a bug and take action.

  I love the thin Turkish towels, they dry fast, get softer with use and dry well.

  This one was made especially for me!! Thank you Bertha! Also I remember my dad had baby food jars with the lids screwed to the shelves with all the same screws and hardware in them too.😊

  I’m only a few minutes into this video. I already watched the declutter one. I went through both kitchen and bathroom under sink cupboards. Just those two chores made it seem very manageable without being overwhelmed. So easy to store things in those areas and forget about them.

  As a person with ADHD, this method is genius!  My loft is filled with all the items that I pulled out of a spare room to declutter at this very moment!   It's been that way for 3 weeks now. 🙄  The declutter one subject at a time is MUCH better.  My biggest challenge is getting the boxes of things I don't want/need out of the house, especially on the same day!   I currentl have a pile of stuff in the kitchen, and more in my car trunk to take away.  😮   Thank you, I have been getting good ideas from your videos. ✌️❤️

  Powerful stuff. Ty❤ I give an hour before bed to cleaning things I’ve missed . Else I ruin sleep by turning in too early .
