This was a good one to relive, can't wait until the Wings are back where they belong.

man, both 2008 and 2009 finals ended the same way, last second save on a scramble in front.

I was at that game, I remember crying like a baby when detroit won (I'm a detroit fan). Single handedly the greatest hockey game I ever witnessed.

The last team to win the Presidents' Trophy and Stanley Cup in the same year after playing a full 82-game regular season to date.

I rewatch the wings cup series every spring. What I appreciate after seeing this series again is just how talented the 97', 98', and 2002 teams were even when they didn't make the finals.
As great as this 08' team was they also struggled at times in ways their predecessors were masters at. Call it an unfair comparison, but sometimes it's hard to watch. So many unforced errors, shots that missed the net, turnovers, deflections out of play, errant passes, failure to hold the puck in the zone, etc. It felt like 40 minutes out of 60 players were just skating around chasing the biscuit. It really makes me appreciate the skills of the older vets like Larionov, Yzerman, Federov, Fetisov, Konstantinov, Larry Murphy, etc. They were so crisp with their passing, at finding open space, seldom throwing the puck into a crowd of sticks and skates, masterful at holding the blue line. I really see the difference now. They call the 90's the dead puck era, but it doesn't seem like it after watching this. What do they call the 08' era? Slap it around and hope for the best?
I mean no disrespect, these players were fantastic, but there is a clear difference. Also prefer Gary and Bill announcing. There's so much chatter in this group half the time they're talking over the game when important plays are going on the ice! Know when to shut yer pie holes boys! Jeez Louise!! 😅
