  He went to those sketchy places because they are all crucial parts of history, and we can't cherry-pick. Ignoring the unpleasant parts only guarantees that they'll happen again.

  The uncomfortable parts of history are so important, so we dont go there again. If we sugar coat things, people will be drawn to repeat it.

  what i love about this video is that it introduces a lot of history topics in an entertaining way, so if people are curious for more info they can do some more research into the specifics themselves.<br>Also, covid isn&apos;t mentioned because the video came out 8 years ago, very much pre covid

  Here&apos;s something that&apos;ll mess you up: the last legal war we ever did was WWII. That was the last time there was an official declaration. Everything that&apos;s been done from then until now has either been a proxy war/proxy genocide or a HIGHLY illegal invasion that the UN simply didn&apos;t have the force to counteract, but that they did condemn. When we&apos;re not doing that we&apos;re financially backing paramilitary thugs and fascist dictators in third world countries. Pinochet in Chile? Milton Friedman (US). The mid 60s Indonesian genocide? That was us. East Timor&apos;s occupation? Us. Contras in Nicaragua? Us. Death squads in El Salvador and Guatemala whose victims included nuns? Funded by us. It goes on and on.

  He made this almost 10 years ago so recent events aren’t included. He has a separate video on the History of Japan which is very enjoyable. Obviously there are thousands of important events, countries, locations, individuals, inventions, wars and subjects which are not included &nbsp;- no one could fit everything into a short video. But it is an intriguing introduction. It would be exciting if he could make more but it might be too much work.

  If you&apos;re down to do more videos like this, you&apos;re in luck! Remember the &apos;Intermission&apos; from this video? I&apos;m pretty sure that was a hint at Bill Wurtz&apos;s other history video: the history of Japan. Very similar style, but focused on Japan (obviously). It&apos;s also a bit slower paced (which does NOT mean much, considering this one packed 4.5 billion years into 19 minutes), and also it goes into slightly more detail as to the clusterf*ck of how World War I started.
