Great documentary but 75% of this wasn’t covering the actual conflict between Japan and the USSR but rather the cultural state or China and Japan leading up to the war. Still very interesting.

This video does not include important information.   In February 1945 in Yalta, Roosvelt and Stalin agreed secretly that the Soviet Union would join the war against Japan. In the event of Japan's defeat, the southern part of Sakhalin and all adjacent islands will be returned to the Soviet Union, and the Kuril Islands will be handed over to the Soviet Union.   USSR promised Roosvelt and Churchil that they will declar the war 2~3 month after Germany was surrendered.   Molotov, a prime minister of USSR, told Sato, a Japanese ambassodor on August 8th that USSR would declar the war to Japan on August 9.  Sato requested to send a telegram to Japan but USSR's teregrapher did not send it to Japan.  Hence Japan did not know that USSR declared war against Japan until a TASS reported it.

My great uncle used to talk about the screams of the Japanese during his time in the pacific. Didn't know they trained that and knew it would shock the enemy.

The Soviet army was at its absolute peak. Japan surrendered to the US to avoid a Soviet invasion and to keep the Emperor.

I expected the U.S. military to come up with a better reporting name than "Frank" for the Nakajima KI 84.

Stalin had promised to attack the Japanese 3 months after Germany surrendered.   He attacked the Japanese 3 months to the day, after the German (2nd) surrender.

Soviet army victory against Japan prior to WWII was of great importance. It resulted in a non-aggression treaty with Japan, allowed Soviets to fight only on one front against Germans and  bring east located troops to the western front.
