  Personally I headcanon that since Greg still believes he'll publish these books, he realised his life was "boring" and decided to make it up to make them more entertaining for future readers

  I feel like cabin fever was THE moment where realism started being abandoned, most other involves small details, but cabin fever main plot point  requires us to believe a 3 year old understands how a energy system works, and would try to kill his family without them even mentioning it later

  My theory is that at first, he just exaggerated stuff, but when he went to high school, he didn’t think anything was interesting enough to write about, so he started making stuff up

  I like to think Greg just calls Rodrick’s band Löded Diper out of spite. If Rodrick’s band were actually called that and he drove around town in a white van with the logo, all of his peers would think he’s into shit or diaper play and bully him relentlessly for it.

  I like to think in universe the first few books were his actual journals published by his mom but after cabin fever Greg got older so he decided to just make up the books from then on

  Jeff Kinney explained that the way he writes is by coming up with 350 jokes and try to string them into a story. I think that's a clear indicator Jeff doesn't really care how each scenario would realistically play out

  I miss when the big climax was the surprisingly realistic outcomes as to downplay all the issues like how their haunted house ended up being only two of the items or how Rodrick’s paper was an auto-F.<br><br>Now it’s just chaos for pure chaos…smh.

  I remember as a kid reading Cabin Fever questioning how Manny was able to turn off the power in every room other than his as a baby, let alone how he was even allowed to go near the switch room unsupervised, was Susan this careless? I can’t tell

  Meemaw’s ring never coming up in the later books can pretty easily be explained by the fact Greg makes it pretty clear that he’s not going to cash it in unless there’s an emergency or until the heat dies down, on account of the fact that the ring is a major source of contention amongst his extended family.

  The 100 years ago poem didn’t make sense because while Rodrick never seemed that stupid. I headcanon he did it to troll Greg but only learns about history by listening to Sabaton.
