I love the way you present these. Like a documentary for a layperson of the 41st millennium.

If ever a planet deserved Exterminatus, it is a planet full of sentient spiders with legs sharp enough to slice through ceramite.

How the evolution of the tyranids would be altered by contact with megarachnid strongholds

I wonder if Murder was a primitive tyranid world?
With the MegaArachnids being a proto/ lostTyranid race?
Like the Zoats.

They sound very similar to the Terminids from the Helldivers universe. Perhaps the HD galactic war could theoretically take place in the same universe, but at just a MUCH more early time frame in mankind's history. With the 40k universe theres no limit to the imagination.

The idea of high intelligence and sentience - but without ego or individuality or even really personality - to me that's so much more horrific than the cartoonish evil for evil's sake of most of chaos lore. Like the Tyranid hive minds, this feels more closely related to the incomprehensible & utterly alien beings found in cosmic horror

How much of this is GW lore and how much is fan fiction? I swear the Megaarachnids haven’t been flesh out this much officially.

Megarachnid is the 40k version of Xenomorph XX121 (acid blodd, chitinous growths, hive structure, etc.)

I understand it is for the story.
But this is so dumb. They can wipe your forces. Why keep sending men into a meat grinder.
You have the orbit. They have nothing up there so you pull your troops out and orbitally bombard and blast every structure, and literally nuking them from orbit with all your battleships, cruisers, escorts once you have shattered everything. You then send in troops to mop up. ( this is not on the story her, this is a good one. It is on the actual lore.)or
It applies to most sci-fi planet assaultz.

If you have the orbit with no threat, and you don't want the infrastructure you just reduce it to splinters from Space first.
To get the hives you just keep shooting and launching torps, missiles and nukes to the same spot. Each hit will eat deeper underground.bit
Planets do not move and jig around dodging you aim at a spot calculate the planet's rotations and nova cannon shots will hit what aimed at or close enough
