for the "star quality", it's mostly referring to "stage presence". like, yes, you can sing, but can you hold the attention of the crowd for more than 5 seconds? are your performances interesting to watch? can you captivate an audience?

I’d like to add the training system was actually established by Motown in America which was later used as a basis for the training systems in Japan and South Korea.

One correction - Abby was apparently in the program for a year but the editing made it seem like much less. You can see after her elimination in the show, theres an episode where she is in the background for a second behind Manon. In the doc, Manon joins after Abby already left

the visual member of a group really helps the group’s virality in korea and brand reputation, they love an aesthetically pleasing member who damn near checks all the boxes for the korean beauty standards

nobody ever gives Yoonchae enough credit, "she's the token Korean, the maknae, yada yada." she was literally the standout performer on Antifragile, honestly the only good one there. Very stable vocals, good dancer, pretty, charming. She didnt get a lot of screen time in the doc because of the language barrier and she wasn't very involved in much of the drama and whatnot. Y'all are letting her little screen time influence your perspective of her at all. Ik this sounds really pressed but yoonchae is just as talented and strong of a performer as the other girls, she always has been, she was literally a HYBE trainee before the rest of them. She's not some token member and she deserves more recognition.

It’s very interesting watching this with the retrospective of the interviews the girls have done recently and how they all feel as though the documentary didn’t even capture 10% of what actually happened. Especially Manon mentioning how hard she worked during the training and development and dream academy and the other girls supporting her statement. They mentioned how the documentary ran with certain storylines and manipulated the footage to portray a narrative that wasn’t true. They’ve brought up how the documentary is not even displayed in chronological order when it comes to the b roll and interviews, the editors definitely dragged out a small portion of drama and extended it through out all of popstar academy. Food for thought

54:01 i also think they needed a korean member to round out the global aspect, especially as the collaboration company is korean x america. to me after rewatching, yoonchae was always going to debut bc she was only 15 and she was able to keep up (and even stand out) with the girls, like her stage presence is evident more and more as time goes on. this video of her is going viral to this song ‘acelerada’ simply bc of how well she performs in it!!

i think with the manon drama it is important to remember that multiple other girls pushed themselves to the point of injury, which is not helpful when you’re trying to make a group. taking time off to heal is important, even if the execs were pushing them to ignore the pain. being injured or not isn’t black and white all the time. lexie, emily, and samara all had injuries that developed from small pains which could have been avoided if they had taken the time to rest before becoming badly injured.
