  My interpretation is that she initially tries to escape her toxic home, but since her parents have always told her that the only way to survive is to &quot;swallow&quot; and move on, she decides instead to poison herself to find a way to survive within those walls, even though it is harmful and deleterious.

  This song and the visuals reminds me of the Rat Park experiment where scientists placed isolated rats in tiny, solitary cages. These rats were given a choice between two water bottles: one with plain water, and one laced with drugs like heroin or cocaine. The rats almost always chose the drug-laced water, drinking it until they overdosed and died caused by the isolation, stress, and boredom of the cages. Then they created rat &quot;Rat Park,&quot; an enriched, 200-times-larger environment that functioned like a rodent paradise. When placed in Rat Park and offered the same choice between plain water and morphine-laced water, the rats largely ignored the drugged water. Even when the researchers sweetened the morphine water to make it more palatable, the rats in the enriched environment consumed significantly less of the drug compared to the isolated rats.
