Dr. Lee, another outstanding presentation! You truly are a gifted orator. I'm having my first ablation procedure 10-29-2026, and the info you presented here will help me ask the right questions. Thank you very much!

This video explores why AFib ablations can have different success rates, emphasizing that the procedure's outcome is often determined by the specific <b>*electrical disease*</b> rather than just the technology used. Dr. Scott Lee outlines a hierarchy of factors to consider when evaluating ablation success: <b>*Stage, Strategy, Operator, and Technology*</b> (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxGr5mCV1eI&t=90">1:30</a>).<br><br>Key takeaways include:<br><br>* <b>*AFib Stage Matters:*</b> Early-stage paroxysmal AFib is often treated well by <b>Pulmonary Vein Isolation</b> (PVI) (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxGr5mCV1eI&t=162">2:42</a>). However, persistent or longstanding persistent AFib often involves complex triggers outside the pulmonary veins, requiring a more tailored approach (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxGr5mCV1eI&t=238">3:58</a>).<br>* <b>*Strategy vs. Technology:*</b> Simply adding more ablation (like destroying the posterior wall) does not guarantee better results if the strategy isn't customized to the patient's specific electrical triggers (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxGr5mCV1eI&t=454">7:34</a>).<br>* <b>*The Role of the Operator:*</b> As the complexity of the electrical problem increases, the *physician’s judgment*—deciding where to ablate and when to stop—becomes the most critical variable (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxGr5mCV1eI&t=597">9:57</a>).<br>* <b>*Tools are Secondary:*</b> Technologies like <b>Pulsed Field Ablation</b> (PFA) are powerful tools that can improve speed and safety, but they do not determine the treatment plan itself (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxGr5mCV1eI&t=795">13:15</a>).<br><br>Dr. Lee recommends that patients ask about their specific stage of AFib, how their treatment strategy is being individualized, and what defines "success" for their unique condition before proceeding (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxGr5mCV1eI&t=927">15:27</a>).

Great info Dr.Lee.I am a 62 year old male.I have had paroxysmal Afib for 20 years with intermittent episodes, usually 1-3 per year lasting anywhere from 5 minutes to a couple of weeks.I have been cardioverted twice in 20 years. 2021 and 2025.However, I have had several episodes in the last several months and I feel that my AFIB is progressing. My EP has the philosophy that since I basically only have a few episodes annually that staying on the pharmacological route may be the most effective strategy as opposed to PVI ablation where there is no guarantee of 100% success.I have no idea how advanced my AFIB is at this point but feel that it’s progressing and that maybe I should be seeking out the best EP in my area for a second opinion.Any thoughts?
