That was so special, didn't expect to be so emotional.  I felt the same way.

The Beatles were a miracle, it's as simple as that.

The Beatles were the first rock band to ever give a concert at a stadium. The technology hadn't caught up yet. The sound went through the public address system that was used to announce the ball games (so it was basically about 100 little speakers attached to polls spread out all over the stadium--that both the vocals AND the instruments were amplified through). It's amazing they sounded as good as they did under the circumstances. And as far as two singers using the same microphone, that was a choice that the Beatles would make. They felt that  the two singers in such close proximity would be able to hear each other better naturally instead of just through the sound system. And thus their voices would blend together better. That was the theory anyway. It was pretty common in the 60s & 70s. Great reaction!

Concert was filmed, not usually done at the time, but this was still the biggest pop band in the world.  The group plugged into the P. A. system at the particular venue at which they appeared; they didn't carry around their own concert-level sound equipment.  They usually ran through a half-hour or so of hits, without being able to hear themselves, and ducked out before they could be mobbed, which did happen later.  They grew to hate touring, particularly George Harrison, and gave it up after the U. S. tour the following year.

The thing people don't get is how huge the Beatles 'songs sound live. At a Paul McCartney concert you hear that deep bass, kick drum and that full sound when he plays Beatles' songs. Lovely reaction.

They did start their early concerts with a shortened version of Twist and Shout to preserve Hohn's voice.
