6 Encounters That ALMOST ENDED My Career

Made a similar, life changing error about a month ago with a massive Eastern brown. A call out to a remote property about the snake being in the shed. When I arrived, they said it had left the shed and gone under the wood pile. I hadn't intended to catch it at that stage but was curious to see how big it was. I left my bag up at the shed and went for a look, it came out and I thought it would head downhill to the creek. Unfortunately, it headed straight back up to the shed, so I had to grab it. It then proceeded to get into a pile of wire mesh. I then had to let it go and recatch it. It was far from happy and made a similar strike at me, (Not near my hand). I was calling out to the property owner who was an old man with a back brace, I need the bag, now mate. "I can't get down the stairs" he says. "Throw me the bag", "Where"," Just throw the bloody thing". "Did it get you"? "Mate, if it got me, I'd be yelling for you to start the car while your wife calls an ambulance". It really was like having a tiger by the tail. I bagged him pretty quickly and caught my breath. The release was also unpredictable. I let him go amongst a rock outcrop off a sidetrack and he stared heading straight back uphill towards the road, had to chase him back downhill. I was rattled that afternoon and will never presume to know where a snake will go ever again. I operate in an extremely isolated area and pride myself on safety. This could have been the worst mistake of my life, never again.

A lot of our venomous snakes here in the U.S. come equipped with an early warning system to let you know that you're getting too close...we call them Rattlesnakes.

Appreciate the content ~ teaching about the snakes and the care that's taken in relocating them. Well Done.

Away from snakes (which have always fascinated me since I was a kid)....I've never had a dog but if I did, it would HAVE to be a Cocker or Springer Spaniel. I don't think that I could ever be grumpy with one of those around. Such characters. They always make me smile.
