Wow, so much hate for this album.  I've been going down a Duran Duran rabbit hole for the past week.  I was a huge fan in the 80's but I lost track of their music/career after they split into Arcadia/Power station - with the exception of knowing the songs Notorious and Ordinary World from radio play but I didn't buy the albums.  I have loved all of the new music I have heard so far.  I've been wishing that I was paying attention for the last 36 years because I missed out on a lot.   I think that "White Lines" from the Thanks album is now my favorite song in the world.  It is completely different from everything they have done before - since it is a cover song that they did with the original artist - but it is so awesome.  I've watched it multiple times.  Today I was showing it to a friend who had also lost track of Duran Duran and she loved it took, but she was also shocked that it was Duran Duran.  Then their cover of Lou Reed's song "Perfect Day" popped up so I told her she needed to watch that one as well and that it was the complete opposite of the song we just saw.  Lou Reed thinks that they do a better version of the song than he does.  He says that they do it like he wishes he could.  I haven't heard their Led Zeppelin cover yet but Robert Plant thought that Simon did an amazing job with his vocals. It is so amazing watching them get so much praise from the Rock Gods that came before them. They were inducted into the Rock 'N Roll hall of fame - which I also did not know.  Do you think that would have happened if they weren't experimenting with their sound?  Do you think that would have happened if they weren't growing as musicians and trying new things?  They have always been the leaders of the pack, not the followers.  They aren't being cringe, they are doing this for the love of being an artist.  They are all creative in multiple forms of media.  John is also a painter and graphic artist.  Nick is also a photographer.  Simon was trained as an actor which is why he is so theatrical, and I'm not sure about Roger since he was always the shy one. John can also play lead guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, and drums.  I've seen him play all of them in different documentaries I've watched while being in this rabbit hole. As for Andy Taylor, in one documentary the rest of the guys were going to manage themselves because they were tired of the suits telling them what to do.  This was right after Andy left.  They were talking to a guy from Corporate of some sort.  I'm not sure if he was an agent or what but he was well know and I believe he was trying to get them as clients.  Anyway, during their conversation he told, knowing he was on camera for a documentary, that the people that represent Andy Taylor called him and were trying to get him to take on Andy as a client.  They said that they couldn't handle him because he was too demanding.  He was basically acting like a spoiled diva everyone he went.  He was acting like he was the sh*t to everyone and it was his way or the highway.  The guys just looked sad and said that unfortunately they weren't surprised but they didn't bad mouth him or say anything else about him.  Andy was having substance abuse issues at the time and it was making his behavior very angry and erratic. That is really why he left.  He wanted to call the shots and he was pissed that they wouldn't let him.  It was the drug and alcohol abuse talking. I haven't heard this album yet, but I do like this song.  There isn't a song that I haven't liked yet.  I really love their imaginative videos.  They are still as amazing as ever.  I am constantly being surprised, both by the songs and what they do next in their videos.  I'm just wondering if you all still hate this album 6 years later?  Or have you gotten over it? Linkin Park is one of my favorite bands and they said one of their inspirations was Duran Duran. I thought that was cool but I didn't fully understand how that applied until I saw/heard their newer stuff and saw all of their changes in their sound over time.  Linkin Park always does the same thing between each album and their fans also throw a fit about it every time.  They were particularly harsh for the "One More Light" album.  The last one that Chester Bennington was on.  Chester committed suicide right before the tour was supposed to start.  Everyone thought he was doing well.  I often wonder if he read those comments and that pushed him into it.  The song, "One More Light" was written about a friend of the bands that had committed suicide not long before they released the album.  It ended up becoming a memorial song for Chester.   You know, it is okay not to like something, but you should think of a more constructive way to offer your critique about it.  These are real people with actual feelings on the other side of your post.  If any of them suffer from Depression like Chester did seeing a wall of negativity every single time they release an album is going to crush their soul over time.  If you can't critique something in an honest, positive way so they can improve, then maybe you should just not say anything until you learn how to do so.  There is too much negativity online.  We can do better than this if we remember that we are talking to real people that have feelings.

possibly the worst produced album ever made.. songs are great. butchered by timberland. could have been so much better

They dropped a bollock going down this road i'm not sure what they were trying to achieve. Trying to get down with the kids and it didn't work.  To me this was one of their worst periods and i've been a fan since 1980.  Timberland and Timberlake sat their laughing with imposter syndrome.

I was like 19 running a music blog at the time this album came out, if it wasn’t for the Justin Timberlake/Timbaland connection I would have never reviewed the album. I ended up loving this album and have been an even bigger fan of DD’s older stuff. That’s why this album happened, not to piss off old fans, but to bring in new fans.

"Box Full o' Honey" and "Dirty Great Monster" don't get enough credit.  Two best songs on the album IMHO. Check out the fan made videos for them by Bawbster1.  He used "The Virgin Su!cides" for Box full o' Honey. and another movie for Dirty Great Monster (very, very dark video, which suits the song perfectly).

Skin Divers and She's Too Much are the 2 best tracks on the album.
